„Die AA ist nicht nur ein Raum“ (Brett Steele, Direktor seit 2005) – sie ist weit mehr: Die globalen Themen der AA-Publikationen reflektieren die internationale Gemeinschaft der Studierenden aus über 60 Nationen und sind Ausdruck des Konzeptes der AA, ein internationales Zentrum für zeitgenössische Architektur, Städtebau und Lehre zu schaffen.
Unter dem Vorsitz Alvin Boyarkys (1971– 90) veröffentlichte die AA erstmals Arbeiten von Architekten, Künstlern und Theoretikern, die am Beginn ihrer Karriere standen, und nahm damit eine Vorreiterrolle unter den Architekturschulen ein. Für Mohsen Mostafavi, den Vorsitzenden der AA von 1995 bis 2004, war es besonders wichtig, die Bücher nicht nur über den Fachbuchhandel, die Bibliotheken und Institutionen, sondern auch über den allgemeinen Buchhandel zu verbreiten. Mit dem Schwerpunkt Städtebau veröffentlichte er Architecture Landscape Urbanism, Current Practices and AA Documents. Eine Tradition, die sich bis zum heutigen Tage fortgesetzt hat. Die Ausgabe von Project Review – dem Jahrbuch für das akademische Jahr 2006/07 über die Arbeit der AA – wurde erweitert, um „die Explosion von Farben, Inhalt und Metaphorik“ aufzunehmen, mit der das gesamte Leben an der AA unter ihrem Direktor Brett Steele dargestellt werden kann.

Mohsen Mostafavi, AA Chairman from 1995 to 2004, brought his own interests and emphases to the publishing programme and introduced a greater sense of ‘trade publishing’ to the imprint. Urbanism featured strongly in the output from this period, in series such as Architecture Landscape Urbanism, Current Practices and AA Documents. It is a tradition that continues to the present day. For the academic year 2006/07, Projects Review – the annual compendium of the work of the AA School – was expanded to include „an explosion of colour, content and imagery“ to reflect the life of the entire AA School under the directorship of Brett Steele (from 2005).
